Turkey: industry on the ground
In 2019 primary energy was about 30% oil, 30% coal and 25% gas, and over 85% of energy came from fossil fuels, so refining, gas and coal sites provide most classified-area work.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe Android handset designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, built for refinery and petrochemical work at Aliağa and on the Marmara, gas terminal and pipeline operations, and the fertiliser and chemical plants inside the organised industrial zones. Buyers searching for an explosion proof smartphone supplier for Turkey can take the datasheet and the certification schedule for the IS-04Z1 now; supply follows certification.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. An explosion proof smartphone for Turkey cannot be bought yet: the SAMS IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued), and the datasheet, certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
For the record, no certificate exists for the IS-04Z1 today. The programme is under way ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Turkey. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
The classified areas, operators and sites below are the ones covered in the SAMS Turkey market guide.
In 2019 primary energy was about 30% oil, 30% coal and 25% gas, and over 85% of energy came from fossil fuels, so refining, gas and coal sites provide most classified-area work.
Turkey mines its own lignite but imports three-quarters of its energy, including half its coal and almost all the oil and gas it needs, so ports, pipelines and storage terminals are central.
Tüpraş operates four refineries handling about 30 million tonnes of crude a year, with Izmit and Izmir (Aliağa) at 11 million tonnes each, Kırıkkale at 5 million and Batman at 1.1 million.
A nuclear power plant is under construction and about half of installed power capacity is renewable, so construction and commissioning sites are active alongside existing plants.
“Explosion proof” is the phrase most buyers use for equipment that may be taken into a classified hazardous area. Strictly, it covers several protection concepts: a flameproof enclosure (Ex d) contains an internal explosion, while intrinsic safety (Ex i) limits electrical energy so that an ignition cannot start. Phones are normally intrinsically safe, because a flameproof handset would be too heavy to carry all shift.
The IS-04Z1 uses intrinsic safety, with a marking target of Ex ib IIC T4, and is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21. It is pre-launch, certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued.
In Turkey. Explosion-proof is the everyday phrase in Turkish, yet the estate includes refineries, petrochemical plants, LNG terminals and fertiliser works. Flameproof Ex d suits heavy fixed enclosures, while the IS-04Z1 uses intrinsic safety to limit the energy of a handheld. A reviewer asks which concept protects a device carried into the area.
Supply of the IS-04Z1 to Turkey starts only after certification, through authorised distributors. Until then a buyer can request the datasheet and the written certification schedule, and arrange a safe-area evaluation unit, which puts the site on the list for the right local channel at launch.
The technical specification, marking target and conditions of use, sent by email.
Which certificates are in progress, in what order, and what is still to be confirmed.
Evaluation units can be used for connectivity, MDM enrolment and workflow testing outside classified areas.

No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
It is intrinsically safe (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), which is the usual way to make a phone for hazardous areas. It is not a flameproof (Ex d) design, and certification is still in progress.

Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.
Refining and petrochemical complexes, gas and crude oil pipelines, LNG and fuel terminals, coal and lignite mines and power stations are the main examples, and Black Sea gas is a growing area. Request zone drawings from each operator, as classifications are site specific.
Turkey has aligned its equipment rules with the EU ATEX approach, but its own conformity marking and local requirements may apply to products placed on its market. Confirm the current requirement with the site operator or your importer before ordering, and ask about documentation language.
The T4 target and certified ambient range will be published with the datasheet and certificate, which are in progress. IP68 sealing and a rugged build cover salt, dust and wash-down. Check the range against peak summer temperatures at your tank farm before specifying.
