PTT: people and language
In 2016 PTT reported 4,616 employees at the parent and 24,680 at its subsidiaries, which shows most operational staff and contractors sit within subsidiary companies.
PTT owns extensive submarine gas pipelines in the Gulf of Thailand and a network of LPG terminals across the country, so offshore pipelines and LPG storage sites are key hazardous-area locations. It runs submarine gas pipelines in the Gulf of Thailand and the gas separation plants at Map Ta Phut, and controls group companies in exploration, petrochemicals and refining. This page sets out how an explosion proof smartphone supply route to PTT will work for the IS-04Z1, and what is and is not available before launch.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. An explosion proof smartphone for PTT cannot be bought yet: the SAMS IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued), and the datasheet, certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
Current position: certification in progress, nothing issued, launch targeted for Q4 2026. Operator approval runs on its own timeline. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Thailand. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
Where it operates and the kinds of classified area a handset would meet there.
Supplier registration and equipment approval are run by the organisation itself; confirm current requirements with its procurement and HSE teams. The Ex certificate and an organisation's own vendor or engineering approval are two separate timelines; SAMS is working towards both and holds neither today.
In 2016 PTT reported 4,616 employees at the parent and 24,680 at its subsidiaries, which shows most operational staff and contractors sit within subsidiary companies.
In 2012 PTT Exploration and Production took over Cove Energy, which held an 8.5% share in a large offshore natural gas field in Mozambique, extending PTT's offshore gas work abroad.
PTT was established on 29 December 1978 as the Petroleum Authority of Thailand, and was corporatised and re-registered as PTT Public Company Limited on 1 October 2001, listing on the Stock Exchange of Thailand that December.
The headquarters is on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road in Chatuchak, Bangkok, while its key assets are offshore in the Gulf of Thailand and at industrial sites, so site contacts are separate from head office.
“Explosion proof” is the phrase most buyers use for equipment that may be taken into a classified hazardous area. Strictly, it covers several protection concepts: a flameproof enclosure (Ex d) contains an internal explosion, while intrinsic safety (Ex i) limits electrical energy so that an ignition cannot start. Phones are normally intrinsically safe, because a flameproof handset would be too heavy to carry all shift.
The IS-04Z1 uses intrinsic safety, with a marking target of Ex ib IIC T4, and is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21. It is pre-launch, certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued.
In PTT. Gas separation, LPG terminals and petrochemical units show how explosion-proof covers different concepts. Flameproof Ex d is for fixed equipment, while intrinsic safety suits handhelds. A phone relies on the second, and the target marking is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4, subject to certification.
Supply of the IS-04Z1 to PTT starts only after certification, through authorised distributors. Until then a buyer can request the datasheet and the written certification schedule, and arrange a safe-area evaluation unit, which puts the site on the list for the right local channel at launch.
The technical specification, marking target and conditions of use, sent by email.
Which certificates are in progress, in what order, and what is still to be confirmed.
Evaluation units can be used for connectivity, MDM enrolment and workflow testing outside classified areas.

No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
It is intrinsically safe (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), which is the usual way to make a phone for hazardous areas. It is not a flameproof (Ex d) design, and certification is still in progress.
Supplier registration and equipment approval are run by the organisation itself; confirm current requirements with its procurement and HSE teams.
Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.
Thai is the working language for site staff, while English is commonly used in engineering and international projects. Manuals and training for hazardous-area devices are therefore often expected in Thai and English. Confirm the required languages with the relevant PTT group company.
Gulf of Thailand and Rayong-area sites are hot and humid with heavy monsoon rain and salty air, which stresses seals, connectors and batteries. Look for high ingress protection, corrosion resistance and a suitable temperature rating, and ask the site about its own environmental limits.
The IS-04Z1 is IP68 rated against dust and water, which helps with rain and humidity. Temperature and humidity limits will be set by the final certificate and datasheet, so check them. IP68 is not explosion protection. Certification is in progress and nothing has been issued.
