Petroperu: infrastructure
Petroperú's North Peruvian Pipeline is 1,106 km long, crosses the coast, highlands and jungle through Loreto, Amazonas, Cajamarca, Lambayeque and Piura, and has carried more than 900 million barrels of oil.
Petroperu was created by decree on 24 July 1969 after the state took over the Talara refinery in Piura, and it has been owned by the Peruvian state since then. It operates the Talara, Conchan and Iquitos refineries and the Oleoducto Norperuano pipeline. This page sets out how an explosion proof smartphone supply route to Petroperu will work for the IS-04Z1, and what is and is not available before launch.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. An explosion proof smartphone for Petroperu cannot be bought yet: the SAMS IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued), and the datasheet, certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Peru. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
Where it operates and the kinds of classified area a handset would meet there.
Petroperu maintains a Qualified Supplier Registration System (Registro de Proveedor Calificado) in which supplier information is validated by Achilles Peru; requirements are published on its website. The Ex certificate and an organisation's own vendor or engineering approval are two separate timelines; SAMS is working towards both and holds neither today.
Petroperú's North Peruvian Pipeline is 1,106 km long, crosses the coast, highlands and jungle through Loreto, Amazonas, Cajamarca, Lambayeque and Piura, and has carried more than 900 million barrels of oil.
Petroperú's published list of facilities includes its own sales plants at Talara, Piura, El Milagro and Conchán, own terminals at Talara and Conchán, and concession terminals at Eten, Salaverry, Chimbote, Callao and Supe.
In December 2020, at the government's request, it assumed the temporary concession for the natural gas pipeline distribution network in the south-west of the country, adding gas distribution duties.
In January 2021 the company unveiled a new corporate identity to position itself in the Peruvian fuel market, with strategic objectives including supplying fuel to the whole Peruvian market.
“Explosion proof” is the phrase most buyers use for equipment that may be taken into a classified hazardous area. Strictly, it covers several protection concepts: a flameproof enclosure (Ex d) contains an internal explosion, while intrinsic safety (Ex i) limits electrical energy so that an ignition cannot start. Phones are normally intrinsically safe, because a flameproof handset would be too heavy to carry all shift.
The IS-04Z1 uses intrinsic safety, with a marking target of Ex ib IIC T4, and is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21. It is pre-launch, certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued.
In Petroperu. At the refinery and on pipeline pumping stations, explosion-proof is a shorthand that covers different protection concepts. Flameproof Ex d suits motors and fixed lighting, and intrinsic safety suits handhelds and instruments. A phone belongs in the second group. The IS-04Z1 target marking is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4.
There is no stock to order for Petroperu yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch, certification is in progress, and supply will run through authorised distributors after the certificates are issued. Procurement teams can prepare now with the datasheet, the certification schedule and a safe-area evaluation.

Evaluation units can be used for connectivity, MDM enrolment and workflow testing outside classified areas.

Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
It is intrinsically safe (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), which is the usual way to make a phone for hazardous areas. It is not a flameproof (Ex d) design, and certification is still in progress.
Petroperu maintains a Qualified Supplier Registration System (Registro de Proveedor Calificado) in which supplier information is validated by Achilles Peru; requirements are published on its website.
Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.
Talara is a hot, dry coastal location with sea air, while the northern jungle areas are humid, rainy and remote, with long access times. Handheld devices should have good ingress protection, corrosion resistance and a wide temperature range; confirm local limits with the operator.
State enterprises normally buy through formal procurement processes with registration and technical evaluation. There is no public approved list for hazardous-area devices, so confirm current registration and certification requirements directly with Petroperu's procurement and HSE departments.
