CNPC: who works there
CNPC is the government-owned parent of listed PetroChina, created in 1999, which holds most of the group's exploration, refining, marketing, chemicals and natural gas businesses, so site buyers are often PetroChina units.
In 2018 the company announced gas storage facilities with a total capacity of 55.6 billion cubic metres in northern Henan province, to ease winter supply bottlenecks, adding underground storage and compression sites. Its Changqing field in the Ordos Basin is reported as China's largest oil and gas field. This page sets out how an explosion proof smartphone supply route to CNPC will work for the IS-04Z1, and what is and is not available before launch.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. An explosion proof smartphone for CNPC cannot be bought yet: the SAMS IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued), and the datasheet, certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
Current position: certification in progress, nothing issued, launch targeted for Q4 2026. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in China. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
A short profile of its operations and the kinds of classified area that matter for portable equipment.
Supplier registration and equipment approval are run by the organisation itself; confirm current requirements with its procurement and HSE teams. The Ex certificate and an organisation's own vendor or engineering approval are two separate timelines; SAMS is working towards both and holds neither today.
CNPC is the government-owned parent of listed PetroChina, created in 1999, which holds most of the group's exploration, refining, marketing, chemicals and natural gas businesses, so site buyers are often PetroChina units.
CNPC's headquarters are in Dongcheng District, Beijing, while its operating assets are spread across China's oil and gas basins and overseas, so site contacts are rarely at head office.
In July 2013 CNPC and Eni signed a 4.2 billion dollar deal for a 20% stake in an offshore natural gas block in Mozambique, an example of its overseas gas investments.
In March 2014 the chairman announced that six business units would be opened to private investors, which means some service and equipment purchasing may sit with newer mixed-ownership entities.
“Explosion proof” is the phrase most buyers use for equipment that may be taken into a classified hazardous area. Strictly, it covers several protection concepts: a flameproof enclosure (Ex d) contains an internal explosion, while intrinsic safety (Ex i) limits electrical energy so that an ignition cannot start. Phones are normally intrinsically safe, because a flameproof handset would be too heavy to carry all shift.
The IS-04Z1 uses intrinsic safety, with a marking target of Ex ib IIC T4, and is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21. It is pre-launch, certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued.
In CNPC. At oil and gas production facilities and refineries, 'explosion-proof' is everyday shorthand for different concepts. Flameproof Ex d protects fixed motors and enclosures, while intrinsic safety limits the energy of a portable device. A phone used on field or plant rounds is a handheld, so the IS-04Z1 is designed around intrinsic safety.
Nothing can be bought for CNPC today: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch, and SAMS will supply end users through authorised distributors once certificates exist. What a buyer can do now is take the specification, ask for the written certification schedule and arrange a safe-area evaluation, so that the right local channel contacts you at launch.
The technical specification, marking target and conditions of use, sent by email.
Which certificates are in progress, in what order, and what is still to be confirmed.
Evaluation units can be used for connectivity, MDM enrolment and workflow testing outside classified areas.
Tell us the site, zone, gas group and quantity so the right authorised distributor can contact you.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
It is intrinsically safe (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), which is the usual way to make a phone for hazardous areas. It is not a flameproof (Ex d) design, and certification is still in progress.
Supplier registration and equipment approval are run by the organisation itself; confirm current requirements with its procurement and HSE teams.
Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.
Chinese is the working language, so labelling, safety instructions and training for hazardous-area devices are normally expected in Chinese, with English accepted for some engineering discussion. Confirm the documentation language with the site's procurement and safety departments.
PetroChina holds most of the operating assets, including refining, chemicals and gas, while CNPC is the parent group with other businesses such as drilling services. The right contact depends on the site, so ask the local oilfield or refinery safety and procurement teams which entity places the order.
CNPC runs its own supplier registration and equipment approval, so the answer depends on its current requirements and any national rules. IECEx documents help comparison. The IS-04Z1 has no certificate yet. Confirm requirements with CNPC's procurement and HSE teams before planning an evaluation.
