Climate
Hot, humid Red Sea coastal conditions; the Port of Jazan is on the same coast.
A downtown area of the industrial city is planned as a tourism-focused special economic zone near the Farasan Islands and mangroves, so environmental rules are likely to shape works. It hosts Aramco's Jazan refinery, listed at 400,000 barrels a day, alongside a gasification and power complex, which creates Zone 1 areas. An explosion proof mobile phone distributor in Jazan City for Primary and Downstream Industries would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Jazan City for Primary and Downstream Industries has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Jizan. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
Who operates there and which kinds of classified area a handset would meet, from the SAMS site research.
Hot, humid Red Sea coastal conditions; the Port of Jazan is on the same coast.
The city has been under the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu since 2015.
Jizan city has a population of around 320,000 and the wider metropolitan area over 1.5 million, so the area draws on a sizeable local workforce.
The Aramco refinery here processes heavy and medium crude into products including LPG, sulphur, asphalt, benzene and para-xylene, so both gas hazards and sulphur handling arise.
Jizan Regional Airport, also called King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Airport, lies roughly 60 km south of the city, so allow road time for visiting engineers.
The industrial city is planned to cover more than 260 square km, making it one of the largest sites run by the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu.
“Explosion proof” is the phrase most buyers use for equipment that may be taken into a classified hazardous area. Strictly, it covers several protection concepts: a flameproof enclosure (Ex d) contains an internal explosion, while intrinsic safety (Ex i) limits electrical energy so that an ignition cannot start. Phones are normally intrinsically safe, because a flameproof handset would be too heavy to carry all shift.
The IS-04Z1 uses intrinsic safety, with a marking target of Ex ib IIC T4, and is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21. It is pre-launch, certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued.
In Jazan City for Primary and Downstream Industries. Refinery process units, gasification and syngas areas all fall under the casual heading of explosion-proof. In practice the protection concept differs: flameproof Ex d for fixed equipment, and intrinsic safety for a handheld. The IS-04Z1 is designed for intrinsic safety, so state which concept each Jazan area needs.
SAMS is appointing authorised distributors ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No territory has been granted for Jazan City for Primary and Downstream Industries yet and applications are reviewed company by company. Because a certified Ex device cannot be opened by an ordinary phone workshop without invalidating its certificate, SAMS looks for partners who can provide competent technical support and after-sales service locally.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
It is intrinsically safe (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), which is the usual way to make a phone for hazardous areas. It is not a flameproof (Ex d) design, and certification is still in progress.
Likely candidates are refinery process units, gasification and syngas, hydrogen production, power generation. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Jazan City for Primary and Downstream Industries.
It is on the humid Red Sea coast in the south-west, far from the Eastern Province hubs, so freight and service visits take longer. The industrial city is newer, with refinery, gasification and power plants, so check each plant operator's own approval rules.
Possibly. The downtown area of the development is planned beside mangroves and near the Farasan Islands, and the city has pursued LEED Platinum certification for its plan. Contractors should expect environmental conditions in permits; confirm with the Royal Commission and the plant operator.
It can. Hydrogen production and syngas areas at Jazan may need a more demanding gas group than ordinary fuel areas. The operator sets the classification, so ask for the gas group on the area drawing. The IS-04Z1 target marking is IIC, but certification is still in progress and no certificate exists yet.
