Industry
The Najran region has 90 factories, 29 of them inside Najran Industrial City, and 27 mining complexes covering more than 5,400 square kilometres, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
Najran is a fast-growing city in south-west Saudi Arabia, near the Yemen border, at about 1,300 m elevation. Najran Industrial City, developed by MODON about 45 km north-east, and the region's mining complexes create some classified areas, though demand is smaller than in the Eastern Province. An Ex-proof smartphone distributor in Najran would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Najran has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Current position: certification in progress, nothing issued, launch targeted for Q4 2026. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Najran. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

Hot desert climate, though about 3 C cooler on average than Riyadh because of the altitude.
Copper and zinc reserve zones covering another 70 square km are identified near Najran, pointing to possible future mining and processing work.
Factories in the region cover food processing, chemicals, plastics, paper and non-metallic minerals, so hazards range from solvents to combustible dusts.
Saudi Arabia's Communications, Space and Technology Commission issues radio type approval, renewed every two years, and accepts European test documents for handsets.
The city lies in the fertile Wadi Najran, a valley that has long been a crossroads of caravan routes, so industrial work sits close to farmland and water sources.
“Ex-proof” is shorthand for equipment carrying an explosion-protection marking (the Ex mark) that matches the area it enters. The marking states the protection concept, gas or dust group and temperature class, and it must be backed by a certificate issued by a recognised body, so a phone described as Ex-proof should come with a certificate number you can check.
The IS-04Z1 is designed to carry the marking II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4. That is a target: certification is in progress, no certificate has been issued, and SAMS will publish the certificate numbers when they exist.
In Najran. The sheet notes industrial plant dust areas classified Zone 21 as well as some gas areas. A marking check in Najran therefore needs to ask whether the hazard is gas or dust, because a gas-group marking such as the IS-04Z1 target II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4 does not cover dust.
A distributor for Najran would carry the IS-04Z1 after certification completes; the Q4 2026 launch is the planning date and no appointment has been made. SAMS reviews applicants one by one and prefers companies with their own Ex-competent technical and service staff, since certified devices must not be repaired outside approved channels.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4. It becomes a marking only when the certificate is issued; until then it is a design target.
Likely candidates are chemical and plastics manufacturing, mining and quarrying operations, stone and industrial dust areas (zone 21). Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Najran.
Marble, granite and ore processing generate heavy dust, which affects equipment sealing and filters, and may be classified or not depending on the material. Paper, plastics and food plants can produce combustible dust. Ask each operator for its dust hazard assessment.
Najran Regional Airport serves the province, and the industrial city lies about 45 km north-east of the town, so visits usually include a road leg. Many teams also drive from other Saudi cities; check the client's travel and site-access rules.
Smaller than in the Eastern Province. Najran Industrial City, about 45 km north-east, and the region's mining sites create some classified areas, but there are no verified large operators. Many factories may not need Ex-rated handsets at all, so check the area classification first.
