Ex-Proof Smartphone Distributor in Jordan

The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe handset for people who cross into classified areas in Jordan every shift: potash and phosphate plant operators, refinery crews at Zarqa, port operators at Aqaba, and the HSE and telecoms teams who equip them. Jordan Phosphate Mines Company, founded in 1949, operates three mines and a chemical and fertiliser manufacturing complex in Aqaba, which it took over when it bought Jordan Fertilizer in 1986. An Ex-proof smartphone distributor in Jordan would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.

More about Jordan that matters for portable equipment

Jordan: who works there

The Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company's activities include refining, filling gas cylinders, a lubricant factory and fuel marketing through JoPetrol, so one operator spans several hazardous-area process types.

Jordan: projects and investment

A separate modernisation project with UOP and Technip aims for 73,000 barrels a day, and construction began in 2024 on a 10,000-tonne LPG storage facility intended for completion in 2026.

Jordan: logistics and access

Aqaba, at the north-eastern tip of the Red Sea, is Jordan's only seaport and is run by the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, with King Hussein International Airport nearby for equipment arrivals.

Jordan: infrastructure

The Zarqa refinery produces about 60,000 barrels a day and a fourth expansion, contracted in 2023 to Sinopec Engineering, Technimont and Itochu, is intended to raise this to 150,000 barrels a day.

The term · Ex-proof

What “Ex-proof” means for a smartphone

“Ex-proof” is shorthand for equipment carrying an explosion-protection marking (the Ex mark) that matches the area it enters. The marking states the protection concept, gas or dust group and temperature class, and it must be backed by a certificate issued by a recognised body, so a phone described as Ex-proof should come with a certificate number you can check.

The IS-04Z1 is designed to carry the marking II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4. That is a target: certification is in progress, no certificate has been issued, and SAMS will publish the certificate numbers when they exist.

In Jordan. A Jordanian marking check would compare dust capability, gas group, category and temperature class with the zone plan. Dust at potash and phosphate plants and gas at the refinery and fuel terminals may need different checks. The IS-04Z1 marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4; it is not a granted marking.

The route · distribution

Distributing the IS-04Z1 in Jordan

Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Jordan. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.

What SAMS looks for in a partner

Operator relationships
Existing supplier registrations or a clear route to them with the main operators and contractors in Jordan.
Ex-competent staff
People who understand zone classification, markings and the conditions of a certificate.

And equally important

Local-language support
Documentation, training and helpdesk in the languages the workforce uses.
Service capability
Spares, battery replacement and repair routed through SAMS-approved channels.
Questions · Jordan

Frequently asked questions

Can we buy an Ex-proof smartphone in Jordan today?

No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.

What does an Ex-proof smartphone in Jordan cost?

SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.

What Ex marking will the IS-04Z1 carry?

The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4. It becomes a marking only when the certificate is issued; until then it is a design target.

Which sites in Jordan does this cover?

The market guide for Jordan covers Dead Sea works, Eshidiya, Al-Hasa and Al-Abiad, Zarqa, among others. Site-level pages are linked below.

How do I become a SAMS distributor for Jordan?

Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Jordan.

Does Aqaba matter for hazardous-area equipment logistics in Jordan?

Yes, Aqaba is Jordan's only seaport and most imported equipment arrives there, with the airport as an alternative for urgent shipments. Customs and zone rules differ, so agree clearance procedures with your importer before ordering and allow time for road transport to Zarqa or Amman.

How does Jordan's heat affect Ex handheld devices?

Summers can be very hot and dusty, so check the maximum ambient temperature on the certificate, the dust and water ingress rating and battery behaviour in heat. Avoid leaving devices in vehicles or on hot equipment, and consider sunshades for outdoor work at the refinery or solar sites.

How would a handset handle desert heat?

The IS-04Z1 has IP68 sealing for dust and water, but heat affects any battery. Ask for the datasheet's temperature range and trial a unit at a desert site. Site rules on charging and storing devices in safe areas still apply.
