Iraq: logistics and access
Umm Qasr is Iraq's main deep-water port, opened in July 1967, with a railway link to Basra and Baghdad.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, built for degassing stations, gas plants, refineries and terminals where a crew is a long way from a replacement. Basra Oil Company, formerly the Iraqi South Oil Company until its renaming in April 2017, is state-owned and handles upstream work, storage and export from the southern fields. An Ex-proof smartphone distributor in Iraq would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.

Umm Qasr is Iraq's main deep-water port, opened in July 1967, with a railway link to Basra and Baghdad.
Iraq's Communications and Media Commission issues type approval certificates valid for one year, and the application normally goes through a registered local partner.
In August 2026 the CMC adopted a new type approval certificate format with a QR code for verification and technical specifications printed on the certificate.
Rumaila holds about 17 billion barrels of reserves and produced about 1.42 million barrels a day in 2022, roughly 30 percent of Iraq's total output.
“Ex-proof” is shorthand for equipment carrying an explosion-protection marking (the Ex mark) that matches the area it enters. The marking states the protection concept, gas or dust group and temperature class, and it must be backed by a certificate issued by a recognised body, so a phone described as Ex-proof should come with a certificate number you can check.
The IS-04Z1 is designed to carry the marking II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4. That is a target: certification is in progress, no certificate has been issued, and SAMS will publish the certificate numbers when they exist.
In Iraq. An Iraqi marking check would compare the device's gas group, category and temperature class with the zone plan at the degassing station, gas plant or terminal. Sour crude and associated gas may affect classification, which the operator decides. The IS-04Z1 marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4, and it is not yet granted.
SAMS is appointing authorised distributors ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No territory has been granted for Iraq yet and applications are reviewed company by company. Because a certified Ex device cannot be opened by an ordinary phone workshop without invalidating its certificate, SAMS looks for partners who can provide competent technical support and after-sales service locally.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4. It becomes a marking only when the certificate is issued; until then it is a design target.

State oil companies run their own supplier procedures through procurement and HSE teams, and international contractors on the fields have their own. Ask the end user which company's rules apply before you ship equipment.
Yes. Iraq's Communications and Media Commission issues type approval certificates, normally valid for one year, and the process uses a registered local partner. A new certificate format with a QR code was adopted in August 2026, so check current requirements.
The IS-04Z1 is designed with IP68 sealing for industrial duty, but heat affects any battery. Ask for the datasheet's operating range and test a unit on a real summer round. Site rules on charging and storage in safe areas still apply.
