Peru: infrastructure
The 540 kilometre Camisea pipeline crosses the steep Andes to the Pisco terminal in the Paracas National Reservation, passing the Malvinas plant where LPG liquids are separated from the gas.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe handset for people who cross into classified areas in Peru every shift: copper mine and concentrator operators, Camisea gas-field crews, refinery engineers, and the HSE and telecoms teams who equip them. This page sets out how an Ex-proof cell phone supply route to Peru will work for the IS-04Z1, and what is and is not available before launch.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. An Ex-proof cell phone for Peru cannot be bought yet: the SAMS IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued), and the datasheet, certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
Status: pre-launch. IECEx, ATEX, UKEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued; launch is planned for Q4 2026. Operator approval runs on its own timeline. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Peru. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.

A testing partner reports that Peruvian homologation needs no local laboratory tests or local representative, certificates have unlimited validity, and there are no extra labelling requirements.
Type approval for radio equipment in Peru is run by the Ministerio de Transportes y Comunicaciones, MTC, and is based on American FCC standards.
The Camisea gas project in the Cusco Region started operating in August 2004, in a remote forested part of the Amazon Basin on the Urubamba River with a largely Indigenous population.
“Ex-proof” is shorthand for equipment carrying an explosion-protection marking (the Ex mark) that matches the area it enters. The marking states the protection concept, gas or dust group and temperature class, and it must be backed by a certificate issued by a recognised body, so a phone described as Ex-proof should come with a certificate number you can check.
The IS-04Z1 is designed to carry the marking II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4. That is a target: certification is in progress, no certificate has been issued, and SAMS will publish the certificate numbers when they exist.
In Peru. A marking check in Peru compares II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4 with the area drawing. Camisea and Talara are the gas and vapour Zone 1 case, while copper and zinc concentrators at altitude bring persistent fine dust, which is why the Zone 21 target matters. Temperature class and altitude conditions should be confirmed with the operator.
Nothing can be bought for Peru today: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch, and SAMS will supply end users through authorised distributors once certificates exist. What a buyer can do now is take the specification, ask for the written certification schedule and arrange a safe-area evaluation, so that the right local channel contacts you at launch.

Evaluation units can be used for connectivity, MDM enrolment and workflow testing outside classified areas.

Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4. It becomes a marking only when the certificate is issued; until then it is a design target.

Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.
At altitude the air is thin and cold, with strong sun and sharp temperature swings, so check the operating temperature range, battery behaviour in cold and any altitude rating on the datasheet. Confirm site limits with the mine operator, who may also restrict where devices can be taken underground.
Yes. Camisea is a remote, forested site in the Amazon Basin, so deliveries and repairs are slow. Plan spare devices, chargers and batteries, and ask the operator or contractor about transport, camp rules, permits and device approval before dispatching equipment.
Android 16 carries both Spanish and English interface languages on the same handset, which suits operations with local and international technical staff. Interface language is a software matter and separate from certification. Check with your IT team which language packs and apps your fleet policy requires.
