Kuwait: climate and equipment wear
Rainfall averages 75 to 150 millimetres a year, mostly in spring, and winter nights can drop to about 3 degrees Celsius.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe handset for people who cross into classified areas in Kuwait every shift: gathering centre operators, refinery crews, inspection engineers and the HSE and telecoms teams who equip them. CITRA type approval for wired and wireless equipment accepts CE marking and EU test standards, needs no local representative, normally takes about six weeks and lasts three years. An Ex-proof cell phone distributor in Kuwait would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. Kuwait has no appointed SAMS distributor yet: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued, launch planned for Q4 2026), and distributor applications are open.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

Greater Burgan is the world's largest sandstone oil field and the second largest overall, with Kuwait Oil Company beginning commercial production there in 1946.
Kuwait's refineries include Mina Al-Ahmadi, Mina Abdullah and Al Zour; Shuaiba closed in 2017 to be repurposed for the Clean Fuels Project.
KNPC was established in 1960, became fully government-owned in 1975, and in April 2025 Kuwait Petroleum Corporation announced its merger with KIPIC.
“Ex-proof” is shorthand for equipment carrying an explosion-protection marking (the Ex mark) that matches the area it enters. The marking states the protection concept, gas or dust group and temperature class, and it must be backed by a certificate issued by a recognised body, so a phone described as Ex-proof should come with a certificate number you can check.
The IS-04Z1 is designed to carry the marking II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4. That is a target: certification is in progress, no certificate has been issued, and SAMS will publish the certificate numbers when they exist.
In Kuwait. A marking check in Kuwait starts with the target II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4 read against the area classification drawing. T4 matters in a country with some of the hottest shade temperatures on earth, and the Zone 21 design target is relevant to fertiliser and minerals handling at Shuaiba. Gas group and detection practice for the northern sour gas facilities belong to the operator's drawings.
Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for Kuwait. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4. It becomes a marking only when the certificate is issued; until then it is a design target.

Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Kuwait.
Kuwait Oil Company for upstream and KNPC, now merging with KIPIC, for refining, plus petrochemical and power operators. Each has its own supplier registration and equipment standards.
Yes. Telecom and radio equipment needs CITRA type approval, which accepts EU CE marking and test standards. A local representative is not required, the certificate lasts three years and processing typically takes several weeks.
Bluetooth pairing is designed so a detector and the handset can work together on one person. Sour gas facilities such as Sabriya and Umm Niqa already require detection as routine, so check the pairing and alarm procedure with the HSE team before adding any device to that practice.
