ONGC: geography and layout
It explores in 26 sedimentary basins of India, and its domestic operations are structured around 11 production assets, 7 exploratory basins and two plants at Hazira and Uran.
ONGC is India's largest government-owned oil and gas explorer and producer, founded in 1956 and headquartered in New Delhi. ONGC went offshore in the early 1970s and discovered the Bombay High field, now called Mumbai High, which, with later western offshore finds, changed India's oil supply position. Buyers searching for an ATEX and IECEx smartphone supplier for ONGC can take the datasheet and the certification schedule for the IS-04Z1 now; supply follows certification.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. An ATEX and IECEx smartphone for ONGC cannot be bought yet: the SAMS IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued), and the datasheet, certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
Status: pre-launch. IECEx, ATEX, UKEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued; launch is planned for Q4 2026. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in India. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
Where it operates and the kinds of classified area a handset would meet there.
ONGC buyers register through its e-tender portal (user ID obtained via the new-bidder access authorisation link), and bidders need a digital signature certificate; confirm current rules with ONGC. The Ex certificate and an organisation's own vendor or engineering approval are two separate timelines; SAMS is working towards both and holds neither today.

A 2015 offshore contract for the Bassein development project and a 2016 plan to invest in Tripura gas wells and surface facilities show continuing offshore and north-eastern activity.
ONGC accounts for around 70% of India's domestic crude oil and around 84% of its natural gas, so a large share of the country's upstream hazardous-area work sits with this one operator.
Onshore, ONGC found oilfields in Sivasagar district of Assam in 1963 and established the Cambay basin in Gujarat as a new oil province, giving it long-standing operations in the north-east and the west.
ATEX is the European legal framework for equipment used in explosive atmospheres (Directive 2014/34/EU). IECEx is the international certification scheme built on the IEC 60079 standards. Buyers outside Europe often ask for both: an IECEx certificate is the technical evidence most national regimes build on, while ATEX is the legal route into the European market.
For the IS-04Z1 both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and neither certificate has been issued. The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4: equipment Group II (surface industry), Category 2 (Zone 1 gas), protection concept ib (intrinsic safety), gas group IIC and temperature class T4.
In ONGC. An ONGC procurement or HSE reviewer would expect certificate evidence before any handheld goes onto an offshore platform or into a gas processing plant such as Hazira or Uran. A dual ATEX and IECEx route also suits international contractors and EPCs bidding for work on Mumbai High, Assam or Cambay. No certificate has yet been issued for the IS-04Z1; certification is in progress.
Supply of the IS-04Z1 to ONGC starts only after certification, through authorised distributors. Until then a buyer can request the datasheet and the written certification schedule, and arrange a safe-area evaluation unit, which puts the site on the list for the right local channel at launch.

Which certificates are in progress, in what order, and what is still to be confirmed.
Evaluation units can be used for connectivity, MDM enrolment and workflow testing outside classified areas.

Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
Not yet. Both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and no certificate has been issued. Any listing that says otherwise is wrong.
ONGC buyers register through its e-tender portal (user ID obtained via the new-bidder access authorisation link), and bidders need a digital signature certificate; confirm current rules with ONGC.
Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.
India generally relies on Indian standards aligned with IEC explosive-atmosphere standards, with certification commonly through recognised Indian test bodies and regulation by the petroleum and explosives safety authorities. Confirm with ONGC and the certifying body which certificate it will accept before supply.
ONGC runs its own procurement through vendor registration and tendering, and individual assets or contractors may buy equipment too. There is no public approved list for hazardous-area devices, so confirm current registration and certification requirements with the relevant ONGC procurement office.
Offshore decks mean salt spray and damp air. IP68 protects against dust and immersion but not against ignition; the Ex marking, still in progress, governs hazardous use. Ask the platform HSE team how handheld devices are controlled on deck, and test battery behaviour in local heat before any fleet purchase.
