LNG terminal
Petronet's Kochi terminal at Puthuvype was commissioned in August 2013 with 5 million tonnes a year capacity and two full-containment tanks.
Kochi on the Kerala coast has the BPCL Kochi Refinery at Ambalamugal, rated at 15.5 million tonnes a year, and Petronet LNG's regasification terminal at Puthuvype. Petronet LNG operates a terminal at Kochi, which received its 100th cargo in July 2022, alongside its larger terminal at Dahej. Distribution partners for Kochi, Kerala are being identified ahead of the Q4 2026 launch of the IS-04Z1.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Kochi India. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
A short profile of the site and the kinds of classified area that matter for portable equipment.
Petronet's Kochi terminal at Puthuvype was commissioned in August 2013 with 5 million tonnes a year capacity and two full-containment tanks.
Kerala's coast is generally humid with heavy monsoon rain, so ingress protection and corrosion resistance matter.
Captive power plants of 26.3 and 17.8 megawatts, installed in 1991 and 1998, make the refinery self-sufficient in power.
The refinery was set up with a US partner, started construction in 1964 and brought its first unit on stream in September 1966, so its older units are over 55 years old.
The south-west monsoon from June to September brings heavy rain, annual rainfall is about 3,015 millimetres, and there are about 124 rainy days a year.
Capacity rose from 2.5 million tonnes in 1966 to 9.5 million by 2010, and a plan reported in 2014 aimed to reach 15.5 million with a new distillation unit.
ATEX is the European legal framework for equipment used in explosive atmospheres (Directive 2014/34/EU). IECEx is the international certification scheme built on the IEC 60079 standards. Buyers outside Europe often ask for both: an IECEx certificate is the technical evidence most national regimes build on, while ATEX is the legal route into the European market.
For the IS-04Z1 both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and neither certificate has been issued. The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4: equipment Group II (surface industry), Category 2 (Zone 1 gas), protection concept ib (intrinsic safety), gas group IIC and temperature class T4.
In Kochi, Kerala. Kochi combines a refinery at Ambalamugal with an LNG terminal at Puthuvype, so reviewers may be refinery HSE, terminal safety or contractors moving between both. A dual ATEX and IECEx route suits international contractors. The IS-04Z1 has no certificate yet, and both routes are in progress.
SAMS is appointing authorised distributors ahead of the Q4 2026 launch. No territory has been granted for Kochi, Kerala yet and applications are reviewed company by company. Because a certified Ex device cannot be opened by an ordinary phone workshop without invalidating its certificate, SAMS looks for partners who can provide competent technical support and after-sales service locally.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
Not yet. Both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and no certificate has been issued. Any listing that says otherwise is wrong.
Likely candidates are refinery process units, lng regasification and storage, single point mooring and crude pipelines, petrochemical units. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for Kochi, Kerala.
The refinery began operating in 1966 and has been expanded in phases. Older and newer units may have different area classifications and rules, so ask the operator unit by unit.
A refinery has process units, tank farms and loading areas, and the LNG terminal has storage tanks and jetty areas, all with classified zones set by the operator. Request the area classification before bringing devices.
Heavy rain and humidity make sealing, drainage and corrosion resistance important for devices carried outdoors. A sealed IP68 design helps, and users should still dry and inspect it after wet shifts. Ask the operator about any limits on using handhelds outdoors in heavy rain.
