Turkey: industry on the ground
In 2019 primary energy was about 30% oil, 30% coal and 25% gas, and over 85% of energy came from fossil fuels, so refining, gas and coal sites provide most classified-area work.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe Android handset designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, built for refinery and petrochemical work at Aliağa and on the Marmara, gas terminal and pipeline operations, and the fertiliser and chemical plants inside the organised industrial zones. Buyers searching for an ATEX and IECEx mobile phone supplier for Turkey can take the datasheet and the certification schedule for the IS-04Z1 now; supply follows certification.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. An ATEX and IECEx mobile phone for Turkey cannot be bought yet: the SAMS IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued), and the datasheet, certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. Operator approval runs on its own timeline. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Turkey. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
The main operators, industrial areas and sites that the SAMS Turkey market guide covers.
In 2019 primary energy was about 30% oil, 30% coal and 25% gas, and over 85% of energy came from fossil fuels, so refining, gas and coal sites provide most classified-area work.
Turkey mines its own lignite but imports three-quarters of its energy, including half its coal and almost all the oil and gas it needs, so ports, pipelines and storage terminals are central.
Tüpraş operates four refineries handling about 30 million tonnes of crude a year, with Izmit and Izmir (Aliağa) at 11 million tonnes each, Kırıkkale at 5 million and Batman at 1.1 million.
A nuclear power plant is under construction and about half of installed power capacity is renewable, so construction and commissioning sites are active alongside existing plants.
ATEX is the European legal framework for equipment used in explosive atmospheres (Directive 2014/34/EU). IECEx is the international certification scheme built on the IEC 60079 standards. Buyers outside Europe often ask for both: an IECEx certificate is the technical evidence most national regimes build on, while ATEX is the legal route into the European market.
For the IS-04Z1 both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and neither certificate has been issued. The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4: equipment Group II (surface industry), Category 2 (Zone 1 gas), protection concept ib (intrinsic safety), gas group IIC and temperature class T4.
In Turkey. A Turkish procurement or HSE reviewer at TÜPRAŞ, SOCAR Türkiye or PETKİM would expect ATEX evidence under the framework in use, with the temperature class and ambient range checked first. A dual ATEX and IECEx route helps international contractors and EPCs at Aliağa, Ceyhan and Kocaeli. The IS-04Z1 certification is in progress and nothing is issued.
Nothing can be bought for Turkey today: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch, and SAMS will supply end users through authorised distributors once certificates exist. What a buyer can do now is take the specification, ask for the written certification schedule and arrange a safe-area evaluation, so that the right local channel contacts you at launch.
The technical specification, marking target and conditions of use, sent by email.
Which certificates are in progress, in what order, and what is still to be confirmed.
Evaluation units can be used for connectivity, MDM enrolment and workflow testing outside classified areas.
Tell us the site, zone, gas group and quantity so the right authorised distributor can contact you.
Not today. Until the certificates are issued the IS-04Z1 stays out of classified areas, and until launch there is nothing to purchase. You can ask for the datasheet and the certification schedule, or book a safe-area evaluation unit.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
Not yet. Both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and no certificate has been issued. Any listing that says otherwise is wrong.
The market guide for Turkey covers Aliağa, Körfez and Kocaeli, Marmara Ereğlisi, Ceyhan, among others. Site-level pages are linked below.
Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.
Refining and petrochemical complexes, gas and crude oil pipelines, LNG and fuel terminals, coal and lignite mines and power stations are the main examples, and Black Sea gas is a growing area. Request zone drawings from each operator, as classifications are site specific.
Turkey has aligned its equipment rules with the EU ATEX approach, but its own conformity marking and local requirements may apply to products placed on its market. Confirm the current requirement with the site operator or your importer before ordering, and ask about documentation language.
The T4 target and certified ambient range will be published with the datasheet and certificate, which are in progress. IP68 sealing and a rugged build cover salt, dust and wash-down. Check the range against peak summer temperatures at your tank farm before specifying.
