Czech Republic: logistics and access
State operator MERO finished expanding the Transalpine pipeline at the end of 2024, delivering up to 8 million tonnes of oil a year, with the central oil depot at Nelahozeves as a key storage point.
The IS-04Z1 is an intrinsically safe Android handset designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21, built for Czech refineries, chemical plants, tank farms and coke ovens rather than for a catalogue. This page explains what to look for in an ATEX and IECEx cell phone for Czech Republic, and where the IS-04Z1 stands against that list today.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. The SAMS IS-04Z1 is the intrinsically safe smartphone covered here for Czech Republic: pre-launch, designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), with certification in progress and no certificate issued.
Current position: certification in progress, nothing issued, launch targeted for Q4 2026. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

State operator MERO finished expanding the Transalpine pipeline at the end of 2024, delivering up to 8 million tonnes of oil a year, with the central oil depot at Nelahozeves as a key storage point.
The country has two refineries, both owned by Česká rafinérská, including the Litvínov refinery, so Litvínov and Kralupy are the best-known flammable-liquid processing sites.
The Orlen Unipetrol group includes refineries and plants at Litvínov and Kralupy nad Vltavou, Paramo at Pardubice and Kolín, Spolana at Neratovice, and two research centres, and it is the only crude oil processor in the country.
The Ingolstadt-Kralupy-Litvínov pipeline can bring crude oil from Germany and can be connected to the Transalpine pipeline, so crude arrives through pipeline terminals rather than seaports.
ATEX is the European legal framework for equipment used in explosive atmospheres (Directive 2014/34/EU). IECEx is the international certification scheme built on the IEC 60079 standards. Buyers outside Europe often ask for both: an IECEx certificate is the technical evidence most national regimes build on, while ATEX is the legal route into the European market.
For the IS-04Z1 both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and neither certificate has been issued. The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4: equipment Group II (surface industry), Category 2 (Zone 1 gas), protection concept ib (intrinsic safety), gas group IIC and temperature class T4.
In Czech Republic. The Czech route is entirely European: ATEX 2014/34/EU is transposed by nařízení vlády 116/2016 Sb., and a notified body certificate, EU declaration of conformity and CE marking suffice. Czech buyers often ask which body issued the certificate, since FTZÚ in Ostrava is notified body 1026. An IECEx route helps groups also working outside the EU. Certification is in progress.
A short checklist for anyone writing or reviewing the specification, with the IS-04Z1 status against each point.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
Not yet. Both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and no certificate has been issued. Any listing that says otherwise is wrong.
The market guide for Czech Republic covers Litvínov and Záluží, Kralupy nad Vltavou, Neratovice, Valašské Meziříčí, among others. Site-level pages are linked below.
Not exactly. Explosion proof is a broad everyday term; intrinsic safety is one protection concept, which limits energy so ignition cannot occur. Flameproof (Ex d) is a different concept that contains an explosion. The IS-04Z1 is intrinsically safe by design.
The Czech Republic is an EU member, so ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU applies to equipment and employers zone workplaces under Directive 1999/92/EC. Refineries such as Litvínov typically also have internal device approval and permit-to-work procedures, so ask the HSE office before bringing phones in.
Czech is the usual site language, and ATEX user instructions are typically expected in the local language of the destination. A Czech-language instruction sheet with the certificate pack often speeds up acceptance. Ask the operator whether it also accepts English documentation for contractors.
FTZÚ in Ostrava-Radvanice is notified body 1026, and Czech engineers recognise it on an Ex certificate, so buyers often ask which body issued one before anything else. The certificate number, issuing body and marking string will be published for checking. No certificate exists yet, as certification is in progress.
