ExxonMobil Beaumont
The refinery is reported at over 600,000 barrels a day after a 250,000 barrel a day crude unit expansion, with ethylene capacity of 816,000 tons a year on site.
Beaumont is part of the Golden Triangle with Port Arthur and Orange, where the 1901 Spindletop discovery began a large refining and petrochemical cluster. ExxonMobil's refinery and chemical complex is the city's largest private employer, with Zone 1 areas at process units and crackers. This page explains what to look for in an industrial smartphone for Beaumont, Texas, and where the IS-04Z1 stands against that list today.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. The SAMS IS-04Z1 is the intrinsically safe smartphone covered here for Beaumont, Texas: pre-launch, designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), with certification in progress and no certificate issued.
Where things stand: the IS-04Z1 has not launched, and none of its four certification routes has produced a certificate yet. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

Who operates there and which kinds of classified area a handset would meet, from the SAMS site research.
The refinery is reported at over 600,000 barrels a day after a 250,000 barrel a day crude unit expansion, with ethylene capacity of 816,000 tons a year on site.
The site is reported to use about 2,000 employees and 3,000 contractors daily, so contractor equipment is a significant need.
The complex dates from 1903 on the Neches River and today makes plastics, synthetic rubber and lubricants, with a separate polyethylene plant and a lubes plant packing hundreds of products.
ExxonMobil's Beaumont page points residents to the Southeast Texas Alerting Network for emergency alerts and notices, a local channel worth knowing about when working in the area.
The city has a humid subtropical climate with more than 65 inches of rain a year, a wet season from April to October, and a recurring hurricane threat, so equipment is exposed to wet and humid conditions.
Outside the city limits but inside its five-mile jurisdiction sit further plants, including the Goodyear and DuPont chemical works, so a single site visit can involve several different operators.
“Industrial” describes a phone built for plant conditions: sealed, drop-resistant and manageable at fleet scale through Android Enterprise. It does not by itself mean the phone may enter a classified area. Only a device with a valid explosion-protection certificate and marking may do that.
The IS-04Z1 is designed to be both an industrial Android phone (IP68, 4,000 mAh battery, 50 MP camera, Android 16 with EMM and MDM support) and an intrinsically safe one. Its explosion-protection certificates are in progress and have not been issued.
In Beaumont, Texas. With a reported workforce of about 2,000 employees and 3,000 contractors daily at ExxonMobil's site, device management is a real task. MDM or EMM enrolment, access control and tracked return matter. Operators often have their own IT policies, and charging should occur in offices or control rooms outside classified units.
A short checklist for anyone writing or reviewing the specification, with the IS-04Z1 status against each point.
Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
Yes by design: IP68 sealing, a 4,000 mAh battery, a 50 MP camera and Android 16 with EMM and MDM support. The explosion-protection certificates are separate and still in progress.
Likely candidates are refinery process units, ethylene cracking units, lubricants plant, marine terminals. Which areas are classified, and to what zone, is set by the site operator's own area classification drawings.
Not exactly. Explosion proof is a broad everyday term; intrinsic safety is one protection concept, which limits energy so ignition cannot occur. Flameproof (Ex d) is a different concept that contains an explosion. The IS-04Z1 is intrinsically safe by design.
US plants usually follow the National Electrical Code, which offers a Class and Division system and a Zone system. Which one applies is set by the site's area classification drawings, so ask the operator's safety or electrical team before choosing equipment.
The area has been hit by several hurricanes and tropical storms in recent years, so many operators keep spare equipment and plan storm shutdowns. It is sensible to hold spares and chargers off-site and agree replacement lead times in advance.
A name for the Beaumont, Port Arthur and Orange area, where the 1901 Spindletop discovery began a large refining and petrochemical cluster. The definition was not explicitly confirmed by every source checked. Confirm with the site operator which plants and areas a given task covers.
