OGDCL: who works there
In January 2000 it agreed to take over interests in the Khewari and Sinjhoro blocks and become operator of both, and nine discoveries followed in Sinjhoro between 2001 and 2003.
OGDCL is Pakistan's largest exploration and production company, about 85 per cent government owned and listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange. It operates around 50 oil and gas fields and several processing plants. This page sets out how an IECEx mobile phone supply route to OGDCL will work for the IS-04Z1, and what is and is not available before launch.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. An IECEx mobile phone for OGDCL cannot be bought yet: the SAMS IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued), and the datasheet, certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
Current position: certification in progress, nothing issued, launch targeted for Q4 2026. A buyer's engineering review is separate from the certificate. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in Pakistan. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
A short profile of its operations and the kinds of classified area that matter for portable equipment.
OGDCL publishes tenders and enlistment documents for suppliers and contractors on ogdcl.com; applicants must be on the active taxpayer list and may be visited for premises checks. Confirm current requirements with its procurement team. The Ex certificate and an organisation's own vendor or engineering approval are two separate timelines; SAMS is working towards both and holds neither today.

The Qadirpur membrane plant was described as the largest operating membrane plant for natural gas in the world, so gas treatment hazardous areas there are large and long-established.
The Qadirpur field, discovered in 1990, is the third-largest gas field in Pakistan, and its membrane gas-processing plant was expanded in 2004 from 235 to 400 million cubic feet a day of sales gas.
Its fields include the Qadirpur and Uch gas fields and the Kunnar Pasakhi Deep field, and it operates the Nashpa exploration licence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, so operations span Sindh, Punjab and the north-west.
IECEx is the international scheme for certifying equipment used in explosive atmospheres. A certificate of conformity is issued by an accredited certification body against a specific edition of the IEC 60079 standards and carries a schedule of conditions of safe use. It is not a legal requirement in most countries on its own, but many national schemes accept it as the technical basis.
The IECEx certificate for the IS-04Z1 is in progress and has not been issued. The marking target is Ex ib IIC T4, the intrinsic safety concept for Zone 1 gas with the hardest gas group (IIC) and a 135 °C temperature class.
In OGDCL. The IECEx scheme is how many visiting EPCs and international service companies document their equipment, and OGDCL fields such as Uch and Qadirpur may see them. Reviewers would read the certificate of conformity and its schedule of conditions together. The IS-04Z1 is designed for IECEx, and the application is in progress; nothing has been issued.
Nothing can be bought for OGDCL today: the IS-04Z1 is pre-launch, and SAMS will supply end users through authorised distributors once certificates exist. What a buyer can do now is take the specification, ask for the written certification schedule and arrange a safe-area evaluation, so that the right local channel contacts you at launch.
The technical specification, marking target and conditions of use, sent by email.
Which certificates are in progress, in what order, and what is still to be confirmed.
Evaluation units can be used for connectivity, MDM enrolment and workflow testing outside classified areas.

No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
No price is published. While certification is in progress there is no list price and no committed lead time, and a supplier quoting a firm figure for an uncertified Ex handset is promising something it cannot stand behind. Indicative pre-launch pricing is issued in writing against a stated quantity and site.
No. The IECEx certificate is in progress and has not been issued. SAMS will publish the number when it exists.

Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.
Typical uses are well sites, gathering stations and gas processing plants such as Qadirpur, where flammable gas areas are common. Classification is set per installation, so ask OGDCL's HSE team for area classification drawings and its rules on portable electronics before specifying devices.
Operators in Pakistan commonly accept recognised international explosive-atmosphere certificates such as IECEx or ATEX, and may apply their own specifications as well. Confirm with OGDCL which certificates and any local approval it requires before supplying handheld devices.
The IS-04Z1 is designed for intrinsically safe handheld use, with IP68 dust and water protection and a 4,000 mAh battery. Remote pads can be hot, dusty and far from charging points, so battery planning matters. The final certificate will define limits. Confirm the area classification with the site operator.
