CNPC: infrastructure
In 2018 the company announced gas storage facilities with a total capacity of 55.6 billion cubic metres in northern Henan province, to ease winter supply bottlenecks, adding underground storage and compression sites.
CNPC is a Beijing-headquartered state-owned integrated energy group and parent of PetroChina, covering crude and gas production, refining and petrochemicals in China and overseas. Its Changqing field in the Ordos Basin is reported as China's largest oil and gas field. This page sets out how an IECEx mobile phone supply route to CNPC will work for the IS-04Z1, and what is and is not available before launch.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. An IECEx mobile phone for CNPC cannot be bought yet: the SAMS IS-04Z1 is pre-launch (certification in progress, no certificate issued), and the datasheet, certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
Current position: certification in progress, nothing issued, launch targeted for Q4 2026. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in China. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
A short profile of its operations and the kinds of classified area that matter for portable equipment.
Supplier registration and equipment approval are run by the organisation itself; confirm current requirements with its procurement and HSE teams. The Ex certificate and an organisation's own vendor or engineering approval are two separate timelines; SAMS is working towards both and holds neither today.
In 2018 the company announced gas storage facilities with a total capacity of 55.6 billion cubic metres in northern Henan province, to ease winter supply bottlenecks, adding underground storage and compression sites.
CNPC reports around 30 international exploration and production projects, with operations in countries such as Azerbaijan, Canada, Indonesia, Oman, Peru and Thailand, so some staff work under foreign site rules.
CNPC originated as a government department after 1949, when a Fuel Industry Ministry was formed, and the group was restructured in 1998 along upstream and downstream lines.
CNPC is the government-owned parent of listed PetroChina, created in 1999, which holds most of the group's exploration, refining, marketing, chemicals and natural gas businesses, so site buyers are often PetroChina units.
IECEx is the international scheme for certifying equipment used in explosive atmospheres. A certificate of conformity is issued by an accredited certification body against a specific edition of the IEC 60079 standards and carries a schedule of conditions of safe use. It is not a legal requirement in most countries on its own, but many national schemes accept it as the technical basis.
The IECEx certificate for the IS-04Z1 is in progress and has not been issued. The marking target is Ex ib IIC T4, the intrinsic safety concept for Zone 1 gas with the hardest gas group (IIC) and a 135 °C temperature class.
In CNPC. CNPC operates in China and overseas, so international contractors and joint-venture partners are part of its supply chain, and many use IECEx documents. A certificate of conformity with its schedule of conditions gives them and CNPC reviewers a shared reference. The IS-04Z1 is designed for IECEx, still in progress. Chinese rules may apply separately.
Supply of the IS-04Z1 to CNPC starts only after certification, through authorised distributors. Until then a buyer can request the datasheet and the written certification schedule, and arrange a safe-area evaluation unit, which puts the site on the list for the right local channel at launch.

Which certificates are in progress, in what order, and what is still to be confirmed.
Evaluation units can be used for connectivity, MDM enrolment and workflow testing outside classified areas.

Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.
There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.
No. The IECEx certificate is in progress and has not been issued. SAMS will publish the number when it exists.
Supplier registration and equipment approval are run by the organisation itself; confirm current requirements with its procurement and HSE teams.
Through authorised distributors once certificates exist. Until then SAMS can send the datasheet and certification schedule and arrange safe-area evaluation units.
Chinese is the working language, so labelling, safety instructions and training for hazardous-area devices are normally expected in Chinese, with English accepted for some engineering discussion. Confirm the documentation language with the site's procurement and safety departments.
PetroChina holds most of the operating assets, including refining, chemicals and gas, while CNPC is the parent group with other businesses such as drilling services. The right contact depends on the site, so ask the local oilfield or refinery safety and procurement teams which entity places the order.
CNPC runs its own supplier registration and equipment approval, so the answer depends on its current requirements and any national rules. IECEx documents help comparison. The IS-04Z1 has no certificate yet. Confirm requirements with CNPC's procurement and HSE teams before planning an evaluation.
