Hazardous Area Mobile Phone Distributor in United States

The IS-04Z1 is built for people who work inside classified locations at American refineries, gas plants, terminals and wellsites, and for the HSE and IT teams who decide what goes through the gate. US workplace rules accept electrical equipment in explosive atmospheres only if it is approved by an OSHA-recognised NRTL, and OSHA states that the NRTL's specific mark is required, so CE and ATEX do not count. A hazardous area mobile phone distributor in United States would carry the IS-04Z1 to these buyers once certification completes.

More about United States that matters for portable equipment

United States: rules and approvals

Full certification in the US includes quarterly factory inspections, while field certification offers an alternative for custom or low-volume equipment already at an installation.

United States: rules and approvals

The National Electrical Code covers hazardous locations in Article 500 for the Class and Division system and in Articles 505 and 506 for the Zone system, as adopted by each state or authority.

United States: rules and approvals

The FCC regulates radio frequency devices between 9 kHz and 3000 GHz, and most radio-containing products must follow an equipment authorisation procedure before being marketed.

United States: rules and approvals

Zone-rated equipment in the US carries the AEx marking, for example Class I, Zone 0, AEx ia IIC T6, so a datasheet showing only ATEX or IECEx marks does not show US approval.

The term · hazardous area

What “hazardous area” means for a smartphone

A hazardous area is a place where flammable gas, vapour or combustible dust may be present. Standards divide these into zones: Zones 0, 1 and 2 for gas and vapour, and Zones 20, 21 and 22 for dust. Zone 1 and Zone 21 are the tier where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation, which is where the IS-04Z1 is designed to work. Anything carried in must be marked for the zone, gas group and temperature class of the area.

No certificate has been issued for the IS-04Z1 yet, so it must not be taken into a classified area until the certificate covering it exists and the site operator has accepted it.

In United States. US classified areas range from the Permian and Williston basins to the Houston Ship Channel, Beaumont, Lake Charles, Baton Rouge, Corpus Christi, the Alaska North Slope and the deepwater Gulf. The operator or owner classifies each location. SAMS does not classify any area and designs only for a stated one.

The route · distribution

Distributing the IS-04Z1 in United States

Distribution of the IS-04Z1 is by authorised partners only, and SAMS has not yet granted a territory for United States. Each application is reviewed on its merits. Because opening a certified Ex handset in an ordinary workshop invalidates its certificate, the partner must be able to support and service the device locally.

What SAMS looks for in a partner

Operator relationships
Existing supplier registrations or a clear route to them with the main operators and contractors in United States.
Ex-competent staff
People who understand zone classification, markings and the conditions of a certificate.

And equally important

Local-language support

Service capability
Spares, battery replacement and repair routed through SAMS-approved channels.
Questions · United States

Frequently asked questions

Can we buy a hazardous area mobile phone in United States today?

Not yet. The IS-04Z1 is pre-launch and its certification is still in progress ahead of a Q4 2026 launch. No unit goes into a classified area before the certificate covering it exists. The datasheet, the certification schedule and safe-area evaluation units are available now.

What does a hazardous area mobile phone in United States cost?

There is no list price yet. SAMS gives indicative pre-launch pricing in writing, against a stated quantity and site, and does not commit to a lead time before certification completes.

Which hazardous areas is the IS-04Z1 designed for?

Zone 1 and Zone 21 (gas and dust) with gas group IIC and temperature class T4, subject to certification. It must not be used in a classified area before its certificate is issued and the site has accepted it.

Which sites in United States does this cover?

The market guide for United States covers Permian Basin, Houston Ship Channel, Beaumont and Port Arthur, Lake Charles and Calcasieu, among others. Site-level pages are linked below.

How do I become a SAMS distributor for United States?

Apply through the distributor page with your company details and the territory you cover. SAMS reviews applications company by company and has not yet granted a territory for United States.

What conditions affect devices in the Permian Basin?

The basin is dry and sparsely built, so summer heat, dust and long drives between sites are typical. Check the operating temperature range, dust ingress rating and battery life, and confirm any operator-specific site rules, including permits and gas detection practice, with the company controlling the lease.

What FCC approval does a smartphone need in the United States?

Radio-containing devices such as phones normally need FCC equipment authorisation, either by certification through an approved body or a supplier's declaration depending on the device type. Check the FCC rules and consult an accredited test lab or telecommunication certification body for your product's category.

Does the handset cover Class II dust areas in the US?

The Zone 21 design target covers dust at sulfur handling, coal transfer and solids charging, but certification is in progress and no listing exists. Check which Class and Division the final listing covers against your facility's own classification before use.
