CNPC: geography and layout
CNPC's headquarters are in Dongcheng District, Beijing, while its operating assets are spread across China's oil and gas basins and overseas, so site contacts are rarely at head office.
CNPC is a Beijing-headquartered state-owned integrated energy group and parent of PetroChina, covering crude and gas production, refining and petrochemicals in China and overseas. Its Changqing field in the Ordos Basin is reported as China's largest oil and gas field. If you are specifying an ATEX and IECEx smartphone for CNPC, this page covers the markings, the approvals and the current certification status of the IS-04Z1.
Pre-launch · certification in progress · Launching Q4 2026
Short answer. The SAMS IS-04Z1 is the intrinsically safe smartphone covered here for CNPC: pre-launch, designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 (marking target Ex ib IIC T4), with certification in progress and no certificate issued.
Status: pre-launch. IECEx, ATEX, UKEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress and no certificate has been issued; launch is planned for Q4 2026. An operator's own vendor approval is a separate step. Certification status. Place facts reviewed October 2026.

An intrinsically safe Android smartphone designed for Zone 1 and Zone 21 hazardous areas in China. It is pre-launch: IECEx, ATEX and NEC 500 certification is in progress ahead of the Q4 2026 launch.
The main sites and the hazardous-area types a portable device is likely to meet at this organisation.
Supplier registration and equipment approval are run by the organisation itself; confirm current requirements with its procurement and HSE teams. The Ex certificate and an organisation's own vendor or engineering approval are two separate timelines; SAMS is working towards both and holds neither today.
CNPC's headquarters are in Dongcheng District, Beijing, while its operating assets are spread across China's oil and gas basins and overseas, so site contacts are rarely at head office.
In July 2013 CNPC and Eni signed a 4.2 billion dollar deal for a 20% stake in an offshore natural gas block in Mozambique, an example of its overseas gas investments.
In March 2014 the chairman announced that six business units would be opened to private investors, which means some service and equipment purchasing may sit with newer mixed-ownership entities.
Its subsidiary Great Wall Drilling Company provides drilling services, so rig crews and service contractors are an important group of hazardous-area users within the CNPC family.
ATEX is the European legal framework for equipment used in explosive atmospheres (Directive 2014/34/EU). IECEx is the international certification scheme built on the IEC 60079 standards. Buyers outside Europe often ask for both: an IECEx certificate is the technical evidence most national regimes build on, while ATEX is the legal route into the European market.
For the IS-04Z1 both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and neither certificate has been issued. The marking target is II 2 G Ex ib IIC T4: equipment Group II (surface industry), Category 2 (Zone 1 gas), protection concept ib (intrinsic safety), gas group IIC and temperature class T4.
In CNPC. A CNPC reviewer assessing a handset for the Changqing oilfield or a refinery or petrochemical plant would look for a certificate of conformity, schedule of conditions and marking. ATEX and IECEx evidence helps international contractors and EPCs working with CNPC in China and overseas. The IS-04Z1 is in certification and nothing has been issued.
A short checklist for anyone writing or reviewing the specification, with the IS-04Z1 status against each point.
No. Nothing can be bought or taken into a classified area today: certification is in progress and launch is planned for Q4 2026. What is available now is the datasheet, the written certification schedule and evaluation units for safe-area use.
SAMS has not published a price. Any figure you are offered for an uncertified Ex phone should be treated with caution; written indicative pricing is available for a defined quantity and site.
Not yet. Both routes are in progress with TÜV in Germany and no certificate has been issued. Any listing that says otherwise is wrong.
Supplier registration and equipment approval are run by the organisation itself; confirm current requirements with its procurement and HSE teams.
Not exactly. Explosion proof is a broad everyday term; intrinsic safety is one protection concept, which limits energy so ignition cannot occur. Flameproof (Ex d) is a different concept that contains an explosion. The IS-04Z1 is intrinsically safe by design.
Fields in northern and north-western China can see very cold winters and dusty, dry summers, so battery performance in cold, dust ingress protection and screen visibility in glare matter. Ask the oilfield for its operating temperature limits and any site restrictions on portable electronics.
China has its own explosion-protection certification scheme and marking, and operators usually expect equipment to carry the Chinese certificate in addition to any international ones. Confirm with the site and its certification body which approvals they accept before offering handheld devices.
It can be, if the marking matches the area classification, battery capacity covers long shifts and the fleet can be managed centrally. Dust and winter cold need checking. IP68 is not explosion protection. The IS-04Z1 is not yet certified, so confirm with the site operator.
